The £15m Raeburn Place development includes plans for a new £5.5m sports clubhouse for Edinburgh Academical Club and refurbishment of a former hotel to create a family friendly 50 bedroom three star hotel with quality bar, restaurant and conference facilities.
The project would create 30 new jobs and provide valuable facilities for the Stockbridge community while securing the future for Raeburn Place as a sports ground.

Festival Inns, which is leading the project, redesigned the original planning proposal and has recently (May – July 2010) undertaken a period of public consultation to seek the local community’s feedback, which has been overwhelmingly positive. Most who have attended the consultation sessions consider the proposals to be a positive improvement to the previous scheme, which was approved in 2005. Concerns about excessive noise have been taken on board and addressed in the new plans and the architects are committed to ensuring the construction process runs as smoothly as possible with minimum disruption to the local community.
Festival Inns is committed to working in partnership with The Edinburgh Academical Club and will hand over management of facilities such as the bar whenever the club has a match taking place.

•The planning application is due to be submitted in August 2010, with the planning decision to be made in January-February 2011

•Assuming that the planning decision is positive, building work will start on the EA clubhouse in February 2011 and on the hotel in March 2011 (due to open in early 2012)

•The clubhouse should take approximately nine months to complete, in time for the Six Nations in early 2012
